Bored In The Bedroom

May 12, 2008

Apparently electronic devices are becoming more popular in the bedroom. And the bathroom. And the shower.

In what started out as a really interesting story (headline: “Get your BlackBerry Out Of Your Bed”), CNN.com reminded me just how boring the news really is by explaining a new report by Solutions Research Group. The group found that 63 percent of BlackBerry users take their devices into the bathroom, and 37 percent of laptop owners use their machines in the bedroom. And some lady said she answers her phone while she’s in the shower. Read all about it here www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/personal/05/12/blackberries.bed/index.html.

Does this surprise anyone? I haven’t used a restroom in six months that hasn’t included some guy tapping away on his cellular phone. One guy in particular was text messaging WITH BOTH HANDS while he stood at the urinal. I wanted to ask him how many shoes he’s gone through. I mean, men aim bad enough while using their hands. Either this guy perpetually carries a change of pants or he’s a member of the Harlem Bowltrotters stunt urinating team.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to find out this guy text messages during bedroom activities, too. Maybe Solutions Research Group should study that. But that carries the risk of an interesting news story…
