Big Brown: Guaranteed Overnight Delivery
June 9, 2008
By Lee Vander Boegh –
The Triple Crown has eluded professional horse racing yet again, thanks to Big Brown’s lame run in the Belmont Stakes. Instead of dominating the track, as was expected, he ran so poorly that his jockey actually pulled back and let him leisurely trot through the finish line.
Coincidentally, this is the way my neighborhood UPS – “Big Brown” - driver treats his delivery van during the holidays. The difference being that the horse actually got to its destination during the same calendar month as the expected delivery date. It’s not uncommon for some of my Christmas packages to show up well into January. But that’s what I get for not shelling out the extra bucks on Guaranteed Overnight Delivery.
Maybe that’s the underlying factor. While trainers and vets frantically search Big Brown for problems (read about it here), the obvious question on my mind is a matter of delivery options.
