You Better Tap That

June 18, 2008

By Lee Vander Boegh –

The sluggish economy is turning people back to the tap. According to a poll on the Idaho Statesman website, people are forgoing bottled water in favor of the trusty kitchen sink.

I guess people are finally getting tired of paying extra money for something that’s otherwise readily available and inexpensive. That’s what happens when money gets tight, life’s luxuries take a backseat to what’s on hand – just ask Elliot Spitzer.

I’ve never understood the bottled water craze, but many people I know swear by it. They say it’s cleaner, healthier and tastier than regular tap water. Maybe they’re right, but until United Water hooks up a change deposit system onto my cold water tap, I’ll stick with the usual.

Besides, just this very second I accomplished something impossible if I were a bottled water elitist: I walked 10 feet down the hall, filled up my glass in the sink, walked back to my desk and am now enjoying a refreshing jolt of H2O. Try doing that next time you’re out of bottled water. Better yet, try it now. While you’re out running all over the countryside, I’ll be here making fun of you.
